Overview
The client is among the largest in the world in their field of medical engineering. Their UK base split over several sites, Sheffield, Birmingham and satellite offices in most UK Hospitals.
The client had several servers set up across the UK with standard Microsoft Server configuration. The problem was that having more than one data point created problems in data storage, email functionality, back up and of course reliability. The client was not confident that each site was completing regular back ups and also the cost of retaining different IT Support companies was becoming expensive.
Solution
With the client requiring a class leading solution it was decided to put all members of staff, managers, remote workers, and offices on to a Microsoft Terminal Server Facility. The client did not have an adequate server room to house the new equipment so this was also figured in and an upgrade to their current rooms power, air conditioning and fire prevention was completed.
Due to the nature of the firms work it had to be secure as it housed individual health records and so a secure environment was built with Microsoft Terminal Servers, Domain Controllers, and Web servers. The end result was delivered within budget and on time and allowed all staff and offices to work remotely from any internet connection and see their desktop. This also covered off the issue of security that has hit the press recently with data being stored on laptops and left on trains or in taxi’s etc.
The cost was a mouth watering £150,000 but did include a full redundancy failover of every server so if one failed another one kicked in within seconds.
